R v SM & SM 2019 - Self Defence NOT Guilty
We successfully represented two Defendants as part of a large scale violent disorder involving 40 people outside the Sugar Hut night club in Essex well known from the hit reality TV show ”The Only Way is Essex“.
Our clients vehicle was driven at the crowd by another which resulted in life changing injuries. Only 1 other was acquitted, all 12 others not represented by us received custodial sentences. We thoroughly prepared our clients case and were able to demonstrate that our client was acting in self-defence.
This was a serious case which would inevitably have led to a long prison term on conviction. We acted for our client from the police station arrest and this case demonstrates that good advice by our lawyer resulted in the jury clearly accepting our client's evidence at the trial of self-defence. Our client's vehicle was returned to him on our continued applications to the police. Specialist Crime Lawyer James O'Donnell acted on behalf of the client with a highly experienced barrister.
