Man Found Not Guilty Of Multiple Rapes Following Nightclub - Northampton Crown Court 2024

Our client was charged with six counts of rape, contrary to section 1(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003. It was alleged that, three years earlier, our client engaged in sexual activity with the two complainants after the three of them met outside a nightclub and subsequently had sex at our client's office. Our client was shocked when he was arrested after a few days and subsequently charged. We secured our client's bail and acted for him at trial.

Our client did not deny that he engaged in sexual activity with the two complainants. However, his instructions to us were clearly that the sexual intercourse that occurred between himself and the two complainants was consensual at all times – he denied the allegations of rape in their entirety. Upon entering a non-guilty plea to all six counts of rape at the Plea and Trial Preparation Hearing, a date was fixed for a trial at Northampton Crown Court.

Amer Ahmad instructed James Gray of 25 Bedford Row Chambers to counsel our client. Our Barrister was a highly skilled advocate with experience dealing with serious sexual offences. The strategy at trial aimed to highlight the array of inconsistencies in the case put forward by the prosecution, including procedural and evidential errors. Consequently, our client was acquitted of all six counts of rape, and his life can now return to a degree of normality.
