Maeve joined the firm in October 2023 after graduating from the University of Oxford in June. She has a diverse caseload consisting of both Magistrates' Court and Crown Court matters, including offences against the person, property offences, weapon offences, and drug offences.
Maeve regularly instructs counsel to represent her clients in court, as well as instructing experts to prepare reports where necessary. In conferences with clients, she ensures the right questions are asked to enable her to take detailed instructions, and she heavily scrutinises both evidence and the relevant law to ensure that her clients are equipped with the best possible defence.
Alongside her own caseload, Maeve is most often engaged by senior Partners to assist in complex private client matters. She has primarily assisted in cases involving sexual and adjacent offences, but has worked on a wide range of cases from minor theft offences through to serious assaults. She has significant experience in drafting written representations to the Crown Prosecution Service to successfully achieve discontinuances and out-of-court disposals for clients, and frequently works out of office hours to ensure that strict urgent deadlines are met. Maeve has also, on a number of occasions, attended court alongside clients to assist counsel.
As an aspiring criminal defence barrister, Maeve completed her undergraduate degree in law at the University of Oxford where she received several prizes and scholarships for her academic performance. Having gained experience in criminal practice as a paralegal, Maeve now intends to commence the bar course later this year and secure pupillage thereafter.
